Happy New Year

OK, it's 2005. While I'm not really into making resolutions (they're always either too specific to achieve anything or too vague to be meaningful), it is time to think about targets for the year ahead.

So, I plan to:

• investigate (and potentially attend) licensee training, most likely from the British Institute of Innkeeping.
• try and get some idea of the elements of a basic business plan for running a public house. Not sure where to start on this.
  
• monitor the trade press (e.g. Dalton's) to get an idea of the costs of pubs.
• seek out other sources of advice and information. Straight off the top of my head I can think of The Publican newspaper.

This should get me at least part way along the path towards a potentially life-changing switch of career. Of course, I may decide it's all way too risky and stick with what I've got, but there you go.
